Setting hard stop points on storm work

Ran a 12-hour storm restoral last night with my crew of six; we hit the 0600 energize target by staging a second bucket and pre-building grounds, but fatigue was right on our heels. What guardrails are you using — hour 8 tailboard resets, swap-outs, or a hard stand-down — so schedule pressure doesn’t compromise safety?

For us it’s a hard guardrail: “no new switching after 10 hours” — after that it’s patrol/cleanup only, even if the target is 0600, and we hold the energize for rested eyes if needed. This drives me nuts in storms, but the one line we don’t cross is putting a fatigued bucket on hot work. Would your control center back you if you called that stand‑down at hour 10?

Hour 8 is a hard “fatigue tailboard” for us: 15 minutes in the trucks, lights out, hydrate, and we swap the bucket operators and the switching lead so the fresh set makes the calls. If the 0600 energize is still in play, we pre-stage like you did (second bucket, grounds built) but add a two-person verification on any switching after the reset — , too many 0500 near-misses otherwise. Do you have relief to rotate a lead after 10, or is it just the six of you?
